2016-06-07  Ethiopian Chess is hosting regional and individual Championship in July 2016 in Addis Ababa

Ethiopian Regional chess members are preparing for the annual championship for 2016 (2008 Eth Cal). In addition to inter region tournament

individual competion will be held to select top players who will be participating in Chess Olympiad in Baku Azerbaijan 2016.

 

2015-08-10 2015 Ethiopian Chess Championship at Addis Ababa Golf Club

 Ethiopian Chess Federation annual Chess Championship has been kicked of in Addis Ababa At Golf club with five regional states participating

in this competition.  Participants include Amahra, Oromia, Tigray, Addis Ababa and Southern Nations and Nationalities People (SNNP).  The team games are only represented by players who have not represented Ethiopia in International games hosted outside Ethiopia.

    After the team games on Wednesday, Aug 2015  Fide rated Individual tournament will be hosted more than 100 players are expected to participated in this second  FIDE rated games hosted in Ethiopia which the first one was hosted in Mekelle, Ethiopia.  For this tournament the chief arabiter will be Mrs.  Rehema  Khimulu.

2015-04-20  2015 Africa Zone 4.2 Individual Chess Championship is being hosted by Ugandan Chess Federation

015-03-03 Huge Success Story from the 40th Year Anniversary of TPLF chess Tournament hosted in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia

The FIDE rating list for March 2015 has been released and now reflects the impact of the two great events held in East Africa last month.

Huge congratulations are due to the Ethiopian Chess Federation who secured ratings for 8 new players and aslo climbed no less than 28 places (!!) in the World Rankings following the success of their 40th Anniversary TPLF event. They are now ranked 125 in the World from 153 on the February list!

Rwanda can be equally proud of the 6 new ratings they secured during their match against the KCB Invitational team. They have also improved their world ranking to #162 as a result. The new Rwanda #1 is Rugema Ngarambe who secured his FIDE rating in this event!

Finally, this could not have been possible without the assistance of Chess Kenya who sent players to both events. The standout performance from Kenya came from Ricky Sang who added 70 rating points from the tournament to rise above 1900 and improve his rating to #14 in Kenya. Meanwhile Purity Maina, Martin Gichia and Isaac Odiah also managed to secure their FIDE ratings from the event in Rwanda!

to take the gold and silver medals of the tournament.

In the individual results Ethiopian Men took gold and bronze Aydaguhem Abera and Leykun Mesfin respectively. The second silver medal was awarded to Omollo Kennet from Kenya representing Kenya team. From Ladies Category All three medals were taken by the guest team from Kenya and KCFA Team,

 Amoko Ivy Claire first , Jumba Gloria, Wabuti Rose took second and third places.

 

Winding up the event in collaboration organizing committee, Tigray Chess Federation,  Ethiopian Chess Federation and Kasparov Chess Foundation has awarded each team winners,

individuals with medals and cups. In addition for individual winners from men and Ladies team it has been awarded 150, 100, AND 50 USD  for 1st, 2snd and 3rd place respectively.

 

As per the arbiter of the tournament Ethiopia has earned eight new FIDE rated players, a rough estimation will earn Ethiopia from 155 to place to 135.

 

 

 

Open Individual International Chess Tournament for the event of 40th year TPLF Anniversary

 

Venue: Axum Hotel, Mekelle, Ethiopia

Date: 15 - 17 February, 2015

Kenyan and Sudanese Federations have shown full interest and support for this event

2015-02-03 Tournament Progress.....

The tournament preparation going well so far. In this tournament   four teams such as Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia Team A, Ethiopia Team B will be competing

for the title. For this event Fide Arbiter will be commanding the tournament and it is expected to get registered as one of FIDE rated games.

Different Chess bodies, governmental and non governmental organizations are keen for the success of this event.  Kasparov Chess Foundation is one

the concerned organizations' who have been assisting for the tournament to be fruitful.

  

 

2015-02-05 The 8th Ethiopian  Universities Chess championship is being held in Adama starting from February 1, 2015

This championship has the highest recorded participants in the history of the event and there are also female participants. The tournament goes on and the team championship will be concluded February 8 then the individual championship continues. 

The group championship already started between 20 universities and higher educational institutions the participants are as follows

Ethiopia: Federation Awards Winners of the 34th Round Chess Olympiad

 

Winners of the 34th Round Chess Tournament, held in Istanbul, Turkey, have been awarded with money here in Addis Ababa. Dawit Wendimu, who won a silver medal, has been awarded 2000 Birr while Fikreselassie Alemu, Wosenyeleh Hailu, Shewaseged Haile-Giorgis, Yimam Abera and Mekitew Mola have been awarded 1000 birr each.

It was disclosed at the ceremony that Dawit Wendimu, Shewaseged Haile-Giorgis and Wosenyeleh Hailu have reached the mid champion level and were entered into the International Chess Federation ratings and Yimam Abera has won a Master Title in Cairo, Egypt.
